Countdown to Potlatch
My favorite small Speculative Fiction convention is this weekend, starting on Friday! Potlatch: "A gathering of the writers and readers of literary science fiction and fantasy at which participants exchange ideas."

I enjoy Potlatch for two reasons. First, I like the idea of a convention focused entirely on SF as literature. Second, so many of the participants are part of my local (and extended) social circles that it sometimes seems like a three-day gathering of friends. (Plus Anita is running the Hospitality room again this year.)

If you are a Seattle local and are a reader of Science Fiction or Fantasy, but you have avoided SF conventions because you don't want to be around people wearing Klingon drag or who's only connection to SF is being able to recite the lines of every Buffy episode, well Potlatch is the one you should go to this year! (Next year it will be in Portland or San Francisco.) Potlatch is a convention about reading and writing the stuff.

(Talking about Buffy isn't actually forbidden. But you can be sure it won't be part of the official programming.)

See you there? I'm working feverishly on a special suprise for the convention...

It's okay as long as you write it down. (Does Klingon have a written form?)
