I don't like Luddites either
Well sure, nanotech might be dangerous one day. Nanoparticles, carelessly handled, could be dangerous now. If you breathed in a few billion moles anyway.

But what's up with this? I mean, do these idiots really think Nano-Tex stain-resistant fabrics are dangerous? Or are they just attention hogs? I am guessing the latter, but the problem is that they are doing exactly what I have accused others of and distorting an important message with obvious stupidity and hyperbole. The scary part is this message might actually resonate with people afraid of any change. The same people who don't want life extension or cloning or anything else that seems 'unnatural'.

The funny thing is, I own some pants made out of Nano-Tex. And I can tell you that they really aren't that great. Maybe they are hard to stain, but they also feel weird and don't hang all that nice. (Mind you, that part might be because I am lumpy myself.)

But if I saw a protest like the one linked to above I would rush home, put on my Nano-Tex pants, and go right up to the protesters. "You'd better back away," I'd say. "I'm wearing nanopants!"

Then I'd turn around and shake my butt at them. "Nanopants! And they are going to eat all your yogurt! And drink your soy lattes. And they aren't even going to burp afterwards! 'Cuz nanopants don't burp. No sir. Then they are gonna eat all of you and turn you into pants made out of grey goo! Because they are nanopants. NAN-OH-PANTS!"

Yeah, that's what I'd do.

...is that by definition the 'nanotech' in the pants isn't really nano technology. See Here

Well, ya. Part of my point really. I mean, how many of those protesters know that? How many of the Luddite fringe are afraid of or disgusted by things they simply don't understand? Versus how many do understand and choose to oppose them anyway? My guess is the ratio of ignorant/obstructive is rather large.

I blame it all on favoring the teaching of reading, writing and social skills in schools instead of math. An innumerate society is a society unable to chart its course!
