Aaron Brown fired
Drudge is reporting that Aaron Brown was fired from CNN today, with the text of a memo supposedly by Jon Klein

To: All CNN Staff

From: Jon Klein

We have made some programming decisions which will impact our prime time schedule as well as our colleague Aaron Brown. Aaron will be leaving CNN and is very much looking forward to some well-deserved time off with his family.

Aaron has made enormous contributions to CNN since his groundbreaking anchoring of Sept. 11th through the war in Iraq to the Tsunami to the recent hurricanes. Outside of the big stories, on a nightly basis, Aaron has provided our audiences with insight into the events of the United States and the world with eloquence and the highest journalist integrity.

Besides his stellar work as an anchor, Aaron stands as an absolutely brilliant writer, evident by the thoughtful perspective he injects into every story he touches.

Personally, I will miss Aaron and his wicked sense of humor. We cannot thank Aaron enough for the skills and professionalism he brought to CNN. Given his respect throughout the industry, there is no question that he will be missed.
Personally I will not miss that stuck up son of a bitch. Hell, when he was the anchor of a local news broadcast here in Seattle he even made the local lexicon with the phrase 'Arrogant Aaron'.

I was glad when Brown departed the Emerald City, and miffed when he got the sweet chair at CNN. Now he has pissed off everyone around him again, enough that even dumb ass Klein will fire his butt. (Personally I figure any time phonies like Klein praise you with words like "stellar work" and "absolutely brilliant", it is a clue they actually can't stand you -- but you are in the same political party.)

What a terrible mistake they have made. One of the best reporters of our time. The CNN news will regret this unfortunate move .

Well, we disagree on this one; but I am sure we can agree CNN has made lots of unfortunate moves lately.

I am sick, sick, sick to learn that Aaron Brown will no longer be on CNN. I have no idea what goes on "behind the scenes" but on camera - in my opinion - he was TOPS. He was my favorite news commentator of ALL and on ALL stations. Even though I am a habitual channel surfer I never was when Aaron Brown was on. I will really miss him. I think Anderson Cooper is o.k. at this stage in his career and will probably continue to progress but at this point - in my opinion - he has not yet reached the pinnacle that Aaron Brown held. Aaron Brown, I will miss you and I guarantee you that if you happen to show up on another national or cable station that I can access....I will be tuned in. CNN, do you have any idea what you have lost?

if you think aaron brown was/is arrogant, what about anderson cooper? we already know that he went to yale (proof that an ivy league education is no guarantee of any actual intelligence), his aunt is gloria vanderbilt, and his mother bought a muscle car which she would drive to the airport to pick little anderson up from trips home fr.college, and when the car would break down, she would leave the black maid waiting by the side of the highway for a tow truck while she would drive the maid's car to the airport. and this is just a few tidbits gleaned from on air moments of personal indiscretion. unfortunately, beauty (???) wins out over brains in cnn's continuing attempts to gain a foothold in the ratings war w/foxnews. have you noticed that many of the female commentators have gotten make-overs, or @ least new hairdos? (kyra phillips, carol costello...)
whether or not aaron brown was arrogant isn't the issue here, although it obviously seems to be of primary importance to you. you're missing the (or @ least a) more important point. in a media market where the public prefers their news spoonfed, easy to swallow, not @ all mentally challenging, and best delivered by a tasty bit of eye candy with legs, the tv equivalents of the national enquirer such as foxnews will continue to dominate as long as the major networks & other cable news stations pander to the lowest common intellectual denominator and market style over substance. so aaron brown is gone, you're thrilled, and we're left with paula zahn, larry king, wolf blitzer...and stories about how tyra banks putting on a 'fat suit'has given her the ability to empathize w/ those @ the larger end of the size charts. golly, i don't know about you, but i sure feel well informed.
oh, and by the way, they always say you're brilliant while booting your butt out the door, especially if your firing rates a press conference or the like. conference/official announcement

Wow - good argument! He went to Yale and his mother was mean and thoughtless, therefore he must be arrogant. Don't suppose you pass judgement easily. And what is the point of noting that the maid was black?

It´s sad that CNN replaced their best man, a brilliant journalist and solid reference for the handsome-perfecthair and way more popular Anderson Cooper. They are clearly given up the position of a network that not only shows news but reacts with intelligence to it. Paula Zahn, Anderson Cooper, they will always for the most obvious, easy pieces and personall dramas. That is the new face of CNN, unfortunately.

Sad indeed that CNN has given the heave ho to their best and most trustworthy anchor. Now we're left with fluff, sensationalization and eye candy in the place of substantial and thoughtful news reporting.

I can NOT believe that CNN has elbowed Aaron Brown from the air. It's not that I don't like Anderson Cooper. I do, in fact, and think that he has his place. But Aaron was my nightly unbiased level headed window on the world reporter. I never missed his program if I could help it at all. I appreciated the obvious fact that he wasn't just mindlessly regurgitating canned information without giving it a thought, but was obviously giving his reports careful consideration. I also liked the contrast between Mr. Brown and Mr. Cooper's reporting styles and liked the differing viewpoints, however just how many times DO we NEED to see Mr. Cooper standing out in a hurricane drenched and windblown and probably taking up hotel space that would be better used to house locals in need of shelter?

This patronizing 'party line' about Mr. Brown looking forward to some time with his family is truly annoying and insulting, also. I'm quite sure that Mr. Brown does enjoy time with his family. Anyone who has watched his program with any regularity knows that full well. Pardon me while I get out my chest waders, CNN. I'm wondering if that little sound bite wasn't formulated by Wal-Mart's Customer Service Department (thinly veiled reference to to that ghastly Christmas E-Mail)

From here it looks like blatant age discrimination that CNN is trying to make more palatable with a lame attempt at giving it a candy coating. Have they joined the ranks of 'dumbing down' the nation? Well I say give me thoughtful substantial reporting and forget the sensationalization of the latest calamity.

You say there wasn't room for both Aaron AND Anderson? Stuff 'n nonsense! Well how's 'bout you get rid of that ivory tower dwelling plastic ice princess who only plays a reporter on TV, Paula Zahn if you're pressed for space? And forget The Situation Room. What a giant snore that is.

So, Mr. Klein... We opt for interesting use of multiple monitors and special effects in place of solid reflective intelligent news reporting? Just how long has it been since you last saw daylight??? Both are dead weight as I see it!

From what I'm seeing and reading it would appear that Klein's head is irretrievably lodged deeply up his posterior. I'll wager that he's a huge 'reality' TV fan and ardent MTV viewer. Enough said there.

In a world where class is a vanishing concept Aaron Brown was a shining example of class, sophistication and intelligence that I personally found to be a refreshing breath of fresh air and a rarity indeed. When Aaron Brown is reporting it is obvious that he is thinking and his take on things is always founded in careful dissemination of information. He is not just fanning the flames trying to make something out of nothing or nearly nothing as so many other 'reporters' do these days.

Best of luck to Aaron Brown. I, for one, will be watching to see where he goes and will follow.

I will miss Aaron. Although recently I really started to see some bias in his interviews, for the most part he was professional and neutral. I always found him witty and charming.

What was CNN thinking? I would guess that the firing was a result of the ever changing public opinion of our current administration and the impact on the poor and impoverished. Anderson Cooper came across as a reporter that was standing up for this group during the horror and mismanagement of the crisis in New Orleans. Did the same public reaction to the horror of 911 that put Aaron in the spotlight, end up his doom when Anderson was in the spotlight? Or was there something else happening in the Corp world behind the scenes???

I thought that CNN did not handle this very well. Here today and gone tomorrow. I kept thinking that he was out on vacation. All of a sudden there is a new program, still with no explanation. I finally did a search on the internet to find out what happened.

I guess they figure, hey, their Americans, they'll forget all about it after about 10 minutes.

Scary, but kind of correct......

WHen Aaron Brown first appeared on CNN i had no idea who he was. Aaron grew to be my favorite newsperson on all TV. Over the past few months i began to get sick of him, and then straight up became sick of him. i don't know if he changed or i just outgrew him. At any rate, i appreciate all of his great work early in his CNN tenure and wish him the best of luck.
Andy Cooper is an exciting new personality. He is the perfect person for the job.
