Remix Culture
Yesterday I, jkling and mareklamo went up the trail on Mt. Si. (See 'hiking'.) As is usual on these expeditions we discussed subjects ranging from copyright in the digital age to what old friends are up to.
Regarding the former, I tried to explain why copyright laws no longer work because computer technology and networks have changed the macro/micro-economic landscape that made those laws possible. I am not certain how much sense I made (maybe I'll take a shot at it with an essay sometime), but I really tweaked jkling's indignation bone with a throwaway comment I made about 'remix culture'. The resulting rant from jkling was highly amusing, but actually I didn't originate the phrase. In fact people more in-touch with the new media than I are discussing it with a straight face. So, for jkling, I thought it would be good to post a link to Jay Fienberg's 'Aggregation piracy and playlist artistry'.
